Fall Capsule – It’s a Start

I know that in South Texas it is still very warm but I am ready to at least think about cooler weather. How about you? So, to do that I am starting to think about fall sewing. I have been pondering a capsule wardrobe for quite a while now but just couldn’t figure out how I wanted to take that first step. I decided that one little step would help me get started. I would pick 3 pieces that were very versatile and wearable and make those first. Then I could figure out where I wanted to go from there. And maybe I could do a little closet clean out in the meantime.

I really want to start with the Kalle Shirt by Closet Case Patterns and make it as a tunic as you see here:

It is such a versatile top and making it a little longer allows me to wear it with leggings or skinnier pants or jeans. I could even make it as a dress to get a little more coverage. Hmmm… decisions!! My favorite type of top is a tunic because it creates a skimming shape. No lumps or bumps!

To go with this Kalle Top, I will need something besides leggings (which I already own so no need to sew those) to change things up a bit so I am going with the Bryce Cargo Pants from Hey June Handmade:

They can be created in a very sporty way with the cargo pocket or without to keep them simpler. I really like the placement of the pockets and the shape. They could be made with some stretch for comfort too!

And finally, I know I won’t need one outside but everyone seems to have their air conditioners cranking right now, so I put the Wikston Kimono on my list to make:

This great jacket in a simple shape can be made in multiple types of fabric and thicknesses. Of course for South Texas, I am sticking to lighter weight fabrics for now. I will add to it when I create a Winter Capsule. (Don’t want to get ahead of myself!)

Do you have any sewing plans for fall? I would love to hear about them. And remember, even if you don’t have a sewing machine or know how to use one, you can make all of these great patterns. Go for it!!
